Re: Potential sea level snow 7/8th Plus low snow next week
Tuesday was never about low level snow. It was about the potential for a heavy-ish fall due to troughing. That looks less likely now, but keep an eye on it. Thursday may or may not develop into something but at this stage just looks like a regular cold front.Bradley wrote:Tony are you thinking now Thursday might be more promising then Tuesday for low level snow? Models are now hinting at Thursday being the day?

Getting stronger south westerly winds now in Rakaia. Quite blustery.

No snow here but a couple of graupal showers this morning.
Woken up by heavy and strong cold SW gusts around 4:30am , this morning.
Mainly a fine and sunny day here but with a cold SW wind.
Snow on the Port Hills.

We are just round the corner from Jeffs. Back up to 5 again after that last shower It was all rain in the showers so far, with only minimal sleet. Wind pretty ferocious up Worsleys, really roaring thru the trees. Glad I did my Port Hills run this arvotich wrote:Hail/sleet in St Albans. Temp here dropped from 7.1C to just below 3C with that heavy shower, lowest recorded was 2.5C. Reasonable amount of sleet, but mostly heavy wind-driven rain.
Back up to about 5C now.

Re: Potential sea level snow 7/8th Plus low snow next week
As noted the light sleety/snow flakes on the morning commute, then turned to a more isolated grapel stone bombardment briefly.
Although it was interesting looking at the radar as the activity was crossing from the W-NW perhaps in the upper levels and strong SW at the surface.
Other than that a fairly typical SW day, but have just had a decent shower of big sleet and the odd flurry thrown in, down to 2.7C with that shower back up to 3.3C now.
Ive heard of thunder and lightning with heavy hail in Akaroa not long ago, but it seems the showers have tilted into a more S-SW movement coming inland to the west north and south of the city.

This was always a very slim chance. Egg on the face of those snow obsessed social media commenters - not an attack btw on the sites themselves, just the general unwashed populace who over react
