Re: General September Weather
Just returned from voting and attending the vintage field day just down the road here in West Melton.
Noticed some Cu forms and building towers in the background and together with the Southern Alps, made lovely backdrop to the vintage machinery, traction engines, the ploughing and other things going on.

Interesting to see the cb blow up over inland South Island on sat pic. 500mb -32C. Cold air heated by spring sunshine.

Photo of lightning near Blockhouse Bay this morning, taken from Mt Roskill using video. Having a few problems posting this photo so I'll leave it on like this.

Yeah, kinda wierd that. I think it might have something to do with very small image files, i.e. possibly anything under about 11 kb, the forum decides it may as well be full-size, rather than a thumbnail?spwill wrote:Having a few problems posting this photo so I'll leave it on like this.

Re: General September Weather
Looking 'thunderish' from here, with great, out-spillage (Incus types) from the NW, also towards TC but very internal, rather than out on the plains or coast..

Re: General September Weather
Pitty those cells are heading into the foothills/ high country area which makes it very hard for chasing so will pass them off today I think.
I don't understand why there's not a risk of storms with the front coming up tonight, which will hit about 8-9pm wind is NE through the city and out to Rolleston with cold upper air etc.

Re: General September Weather
Can hear some distant brief rumbles from Howick. Wonder if we will actually get any action this time...

Re: General September Weather
Back is Grey Lynn after a quick chase out to NW Auckland. Observed some good flashes/thunder, heavy rain/small small. Didn't get any worthwhile photos but worth a drive anyway.
I have recorded over 160mm so far this month, been a wet one.

Re: General September Weather
I went too far NW and got stuck in slow traffic and rain with the lightning to my southwest.
A friend who lives at Hua, West Auckland tells me they had big hail stones there this morning, over 2cm in size
Another photo from this morning.

Re: General September Weather
Was woken by a very heavy shower with tiny hail at 12.40am. Last night's low of 6°C is the coldest this month, shows that we haven't had much cold weather this month.
