General September Weather
Heaps of snow on the central NI. It is falling very fast. At 8.15 there was no snow on any webcams (hail at desert road summit) and by 8.30 everything was white on all cameras.

I suggest that event was straight line winds (squall) with the frontal passage.Nev wrote:Another report of apparent tornado damage on Saturday evening just north of Kaitaia at about 5:45pm…

Re: General September Weather
Bean Rock in Auckland's Waitemata gusting to 120 km/h - a little more than at Manukau Heads.
Update: Bean Rock dropped down a little, Manukau Heads now up to 122 km/h, Tiritiri up to 130 km/h.

Interestingly, at about the same time I was watching what resembled a horizontal funnel-cloud between here and the North Shore. It started to drop down, but its tail then to broke up, as did the rest of it shortly after.

Re: General September Weather
Not in St Albans - have had hail on & off this morning. Can't see anything on Port Hills (well not on Surgarloaf eastwards anyway), Mt Herbert presumably coated, but obscured by cloud.matttbs wrote:Is it snowing in chch? I see it's only 3 degrees with 1.4mm in the last 10 mins going by metservice

Re: General September Weather
Brief but squally showers with small hail on the western side of Chch are bringing the temps down. Was 4.3C here a short time ago.

Re: General September Weather
Stronger sun this time of year means more variation in temps, ie even in a cold outbreak it gets warmer when the sun comes out than in winter, though temperature drops a lot when a shower passes over.

Yeah tables have turned for sure.. spanker of a day here yesterday, even managed to get a wee bit sunburnt out on the beach with the chainsaw while you lot were skiing to work.. gloomy & overcast now with the threat of that dreaded torrential drizzle.. love the dynamics of kiwi wx
