Re: Daylight Saving 27th sept
-I've always mooted the idea, Labour WE to Easter but there are other reasons for the period of the moving of time to increase the level of sunshine hours in the latter part of the day.
If you think of it, it would make real sense to have "Daylight Saving" in winter so you can have extra daylight in the evening rather than it getting dark-ish from about 4pm ?
Maybe there is a time for a clocks change???

I agree with you John, that extra hour of light at the end of the day would be so useful during winter.

I don't think many would appreciate the dark mornings though. I certainly wouldn't!Richard wrote:I agree with you John, that extra hour of light at the end of the day would be so useful during winter.

You can counter that by pulling them closed an hour laterDale wrote:The extra hour of daylight fades the curtains..

Re: Daylight Saving 27th sept
I might be doing stuff....
Puns aside, I do love daylight saving, winter hmm not so sure but for the summer period, no problem. After years of working rotational shiftwork, it is amazing how the body can adapt if you are willing to push it.
They tried it in Queensland years ago when I was living there.. the yokels couldnt handle daylight at 8pm so it got canned real quick, hence the fading curtains & cows not being able to be milked properly.. the tropics I can understand, but for extreme southern & northern latitudes..

If you you hate the weather there so much Michael then bloody move
Not sure DST in winter would work as it would be pitch black till after 8.30am and who the hell wants that.

After living in Cairns, daylight saving in winter would be ideal.Dale wrote:I might be doing stuff....

Re: Daylight Saving 28th Sept
Then why are we averaging only 4 hours of sun a day out of a possible 12 for this month?

The data from the former site at Auckland Aero doesn't support your claim - the average sun was similar to that at the city site and also Mechanics Bay. Also, you had above average sun in the previous 8 months, but that didn't stop your exaggerated claims. Wellington has had below normal sun in 3 of the last 4 years and is only now catching up to this year's YTD. We have more reason to complain than you.

Re: Daylight Saving 28th Sept
For me September has been the perfect weather month, a lot of days with Cb in our skies and quite a few thunder days . bring on day light saving
I think Auckland sunshine is around 85% of normal but we have around 175mm of rain in 3 weeks, it won't be a normal sunshine month with so much rain. Temperature about normal.

Daylight Saving 28th Sept
I agree re yesterday. There definitely wasn't 7 hours of sun yesterday. I was at paparimu and it was not what I'd call over cast. More lots and lots of passing cloud in the wind. But 7 hours I'm struggling to see.

Re: Daylight Saving 28th Sept
Guessing 8hrs sunshine here yesterday, 10hrs today.
I think yesterday the cloud gradually moved in from the southwest, South Auckland having less sun than Northshore

Re: Daylight Saving 28th Sept
Notice when go into the cbd you see the cloud to the south and much less in town in southwest or cloudy anticyclone conditions though heres better than the cbd from northeast, the city often then gets drizzly wind blown wet light rain stuff, here less wind and often at that time overcast and dry

Yes, South Auckland is a bit better on a NE than Northshore, reverse with a southwest.
