A little bit unusual to see Napier currently on 9C, Whakatane on 21.5C. Masterton is on 7.7C.

Yes, well Dan Corbett, which hopefully will be Jim's replacement, with his BBC type of weather presentation, will be an excellent replacement.
He showed Jims' initial broadcast, tonight, way back in 1986, I think?
He had a beautiful jacket on

I reckon the bloke who does the Hilux ad's should be the new presenter.. what a hoot that would be! :D
And yes Melja, Sunday doesn't look to crash hot here, the motorbike street race is on in town so it's guaranteed to rain.

That front over the North Island on Monday has reasonable moisture so it should give a good soaking to many places.

Down to 4.6C here this morn - very cold for Oct.
I see Ricky was down to 3.8C earlier - his second coldest Oct temp in 11 years of records.

A low of 3.1 here this morning. Almost exactly 2 years ago (24 Oct 2012) it got down to 3.4 degrees, interesting coincidence:)

A sunny but cold day here with that cold ENE wind blowing, spoiling the West Melton event celebrating 150 years. 8) .

That westerly change brought with it a nice surge of moisture with it.
Felt fairly cool when the change came in.

As a side note looks like the All Blacks may be playing in some very chilly temperatures in Chicago next Saturday, 850hpa temps of around -10C are forecast which would translate into a maximum of around 1-2C!!

Bugger all rain here in reefton today and this after the forecast of all this heavy rain and thunderstorms, a couple of mills at most.
Terrible forecasting once again for the west coast.

Looks to be a window for possible elevated thunder this afternoon/early evening over the west of the North Island as moist subtropical air advects into the front. The front loses its strength tonight, so Auckland may not get much rain.

Nice to hear some rain tonight! Certainly has been drier this month, I've recorded only 48 mm for October so far.
