Yes, impressive and points to a weak supercell.

Good speed shear and strong lift with that front.

Yes, it was pretty willing through the southern reaches of Auckland with a short, sharp CB squall with associated lightning and instantenous thunder around 0330. Certainly an early wakeup call for the household!

Same thing in Leamington,Cambridge at same time, from a different cell. Each lightning flash was making the landline phone squeal. First time in a while have been relieved when the strikes started to get further away rather than closer.

Yes, decent size hail there. A friend who lives in the Waitakeres at Huia reported hail that size a couple of months back with a westerly flow storm, a zone for severe hail out there.

I saved a series of Weatherzone's version of the Akld radar imagery from 11:30pm to 12:30am.
Below is a cropped, blow-up of the 11:45pm image...

Note: The background/radar-overlay should be correct. I compared it back in June to MS's imagery (a few days after it was brought into question then) and found that it was actually spot-on.

Whatever it is, I like the trend here. 2 consecutive months with a substantial sunshine surplus, 4 of 5 months below average rainfall. About time too, for here anyway.

Personally, I think it sounds more like the similar squall conditions experienced here?

Also note that in the video-interveiw, the property owner refers to it as a possible 'small tornado', which the stupid reporter has translated into the 'm-word'.

Looks like a squall to me, all the tree debris fell in the same direction indicative of straight line winds.

That was very spectacular from my 6th floor window. Great lightning dispay accross the Port Hills and the CBD, now moved out to the east. But not a drop of moisture.
