Some very clear waveforms coming in from the detectors, indicates the Lightning has a more stronger amplitude :)

Heaps of elevated thunder here, and a tropical downpour! Had about 15mm in less than 20 minutes, eased to moderate rain now.

Inbound air traffic in holding patterns at the moment at Auckland Airport. Departures seem unaffected.

:yum: Terrific thunder been happening here over the past 20 mins, which has been building to a crescendo. Last clap made me jump and the lightning has been so bright it makes one blink!

Yeah, up to 15.5mm here with most of that in the last hour or so. Best T-storm here for quite some time. Here's a later view of Ricky's Boltek…

Today has been all elevated thunder and certainly not the forecast convergent surface thunder out west.

Another welcome 10mm here though. Never complain of that during the summer and being able to hear thunder again is a treat.

Mind you now that I look at the radar loop it appears the convergent thunder out west is only getting started now. It will lack power though, no heating here today.

The western convergence showers are there now over North Auckland/Northland, some heavy showers isolated thunder occurring. Something to watch next 2 or 3 hrs. Weather is trying to brighten here now, tomorrow will be a much brighter day.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch is to cover the surface-based storms moving in from the west now which may echo-train and produce high rainfall, not the elevated storms that have been affecting much of the country through the day and were quite mobile.

Low overcaste and misty here in Grey Lynn with the dewpoint on 19C.

Looking like surface heating not eventuating for those surface based storms. Really needed to see some proper heating and a lift in the temperatures to fire them up. A pity as the upper atmosphere is explosively unstable today!

I got a little bit more rain than you yesterday with 28.4mm, thanks to a period of rain in the evening.
The sun has remained elusive so far today, cloudy with some drizzle showers. Humid 21C.
