Yes. The same for today for Canterbury, the last 5 days of the computer generated forecast has predicted 5 days of rain with northwesterlies/westerlys. This doesn't happen unless overflow from wet conditions on the West coast and then you don't get much.NZstorm wrote:The Met Service long range forecasts for Auckland persistently predict rain. Reefton got 31.7°C officially yesterday, so Springs just piped us.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote:Thanks for that, so where was the national high recorded? , not ReeftonNev wrote:
Oh, and for the record, Greymouth Aero's T-max yesterday was 22.6C and Hokitika Aero's 22.2C.
Last 6 days have been pretty ridiculously hot here. Max's according to NIWA site have gone 29.0, 29.5, 33.2, 30.8, 31.7 & 30.9. Looks like we'll get another 30+ day tomorrow but that might be the end of the run for us.
I'm unsure whether it'll be some sort of record round here as we do have hot summers, but I think it'd be pretty close to a record, if not one.
The grass has dried up a lot in the last few days - very yellow and dry now. Farmers will be looking forward to the weekend rain.

Re: General January Weather
the models are playing with the idea of a TC in the first week of Feb in the Fiji area....about the same time as NZ being in between high pressure....so a window of opportunity for a visit from a TC...

Photo of a Cb south of Hamilton this evening seen from north of Huntly, a little bit of zoom len.
I see Wanaka had a heat shower this evening, a rare occurrence for that part of NZ.

I see New Plymouth Aero recorded 34.6mm in the hour to 6pm, plus 7.4mm the following hour.
Re Reefton, I'd say that NIWA will probably be recording its 3rd highest Jan mean T-max since records began in 1961 (note: data incomplete, incl. some of Jan 1998 & 1999). NIWA's 33.2C there on Sunday also looks to be its 3rd highest ever Jan temp, and 4th highest overall.

Re: General January Weather
Interesting to see a 7day rainfall chart with decent precip on it for a change after a month of dry weather.
Looks like a decent upper level system weekend into next week affecting NZ weather.

Is indeed a high dewpoint for down here Spwill. Might get a heat shower in the hills behind here later if that sun gets through, a few patches of blue above me at the mo but we'll see.

A warm month indeed, but not the warmest.
As predicted another 30+ day again today. max so far 31.1°C, but that was only up to 3pm, and its warmed up since then, so the max should climb a bit more.

Loving the looks of GFS at the moment. As Brian mentioned the TC (now two of them) are hanging around between our highs so a window of opportunity for them to move this way. Now GFS is hinting at exactly that with a twin set if TC's.

GFS has been flip flopping heaps, I would tend to ignore it atm. The current 00Z indicating a cyclone going into Queensland mid late next week (Feb 5th).jamie wrote:Loving the looks of GFS at the moment. Re: General January Weather
Something to watch with a big grain of salt a tropical cyclone heading this way would be nice, getting dry around here.
