Already 23C with 19C dewpoint at 8.30am. My morning exercise was much sweatier than usual
Overall the humidity hasn't actually been that bad this summer, so can't complain too much!

Auckland hasn't had what I call proper humidity for a few years now. Summers of late have been less humid it seems. We don't get the periods of 20C+ dps anymore.David wrote: Overall the humidity hasn't actually been that bad this summer, so can't complain too much!

Re: General January Weather
Very true, its been a warm January but not humid by Auckland standards.
The unreliable indicators point to the gate possibly opening to the tropics after about the 10th Feb, rain and humidity coming down.
Greylynn average temp range for Jan has been min 15.5C - max 26C, 10mm rain, sunshine hrs near 300hr ( a guess) an exceptional January.

Re: General January Weather
Here are the results of some queries from my database. This January has the second highest average dewpoint in the last few years, but that is because of the higher average temperature. The average humidity is more informative in the stats below:NZstorm wrote: Auckland hasn't had what I call proper humidity for a few years now. Summers of late have been less humid it seems. Re: General January Weather
2011 stands out and 2012 to a lesser degree.
Certainly haven't had those 20+ degree nights end on end in the last few years.
New what about drawing out something along the lines of number of days with min temps higher than 18 or something?

Re: General January Weather
Here are some numbers (I used December-March for each summer period because March can have quite a few warm nights). Only one min above 18 so far this summer (today will be the second)jamie wrote:2011 stands out and 2012 to a lesser degree.

Re: General January Weather
The Mangere Auckland station has recorded 298 hours of sunshine ending on the 28th. With a reasonable amount of sun yesterday & today, and likely more tomorrow, I guess we will end up with our sunniest January on record

Re: General January Weather
Though perhaps not the Mechanics Bay record of 316 in 1957. N Plymouth is likely to "record" a value comfortably ahead of the NZ record of 335, but I won't buy it!!David wrote:The Mangere Auckland station has recorded 298 hours of sunshine ending on the 28th. Re: General January Weather
Think you mean 'ending on the 29th' (yesterday). But yes, only 6.4 hrs needed to match its Jan record, which I think we will we easily get today.David wrote:The Mangere Auckland station has recorded 298 hours of sunshine ending on the 28th. Yes, my mistake! Guess that means the final tally will end up around 310 hours.Nev wrote: Think you mean 'ending on the 29th' (yesterday). But yes, only 6.4 hrs needed to match its Jan record, which I think we will we easily get today.

Re: General January Weather
surprised to wake up to see 10mm recorded
nice
low cloud on the hills, DP 18.5
edit...wow, looking at rain radar...its a narrow line of rain...which Ricky is catching and which extends down to here...convergence I would say...slow moving too
