Same to you Nev and everyone else also

First day of the new year looks like its going to be cooler than what we've had over the last week but that sets to return again over the coming days, the end of next week looks to very hot in eastern areas.
After two years of poor summers this one so far is shaping up being more of normal temps.

Gusty southerly change arrived just after 2am but no rain from it here.

A good New Year to any and all.

Had a useful 7.6mm here in the early hours. Probably the last decent rain for the next 2 weeks!

Happy new year all!

Happy New Year indeed gang..

Nice start to it so far in the Grey.. warm & sunny, scattered gunk around from the system that came through yesterday, but at least the humidity has dropped off markedly.. for now.
Chainsaws & lawnmowers going flat out around the neighbourhood from 10am, good hangover cure ;)

Hope everyone has a great year
A fresher feel to our weather today, dewpoint at 13C. Looks like our weather turns more humid Saturday, dewpoints 17C by then.

Yes, the atmosphere can be clearer in dry air. The humid airmasses can have a haze with it which I believe is salt haze.

It was hazy today tho. I think that was to do with the wind. But it was definitely gleery/bright today.

Those clear sky low humidity conditions are common here when compared to coastal Canterbury

yup, know all that, but all the same, it was a particularly bright light day...yes?
probably because the sun is most overhead about now...

They are talking about drought down here in South Canterbury. I notice lawns are brown in Timaru and the rivers look low.

Drier airmass tends to originate off the southern oceans where air is much cleaner apart from salt haze at times.
Lovely fine morning here but fresh.
A humid air mass moving onto Northern NZ tomorrow with the slight chance of an afternoon shower but showers look more likely over the inland/eastern high country

That would do it, as the sun is on it's transition northwards.. maybe the fact it is also a full moon

OVC here this morning & rather cool too, 16ish outside, a refreshing change from the last week or 2 but with late rain on the FC for here.. it won't last long. Nor will it with the monsoon upon Darwin now.. a plethora of moisture to tap into & drag across the Tasman..

A stunning day here, up to 25°C this afternoon after a cooler 11°C start. Looks like plenty of fine weather for the first half of the month.

Same here. :(
Was hoping for some rain this evening but prospects don't look all that promising and a scorcher on the way for Sunday. :(

I agree Richard it is summer after all and the norm in Canterbury is brown and not green.
Farmers need for green and lots of water tends to make more of a big thing these days.

Another sad day for Canterbury tomorrow (starting sound like Michael here [-X ) with NW winds and high 20, possibly 30 temperatures, drying out the place further. #-o
thank goodness for the aqua filters and underground water supplies

Looks like December was a dry month for the eastern South Island, rainfall well below average. The month lacked cold upper troughing .
