Dan on TV1 weather
Has anyone noticed what Dan has done to the weather graphics?
He includes the fronts on the island flyovers and where highs and lows are on the extended forecast. I think its one of the best additions yet!
I quite like him as a presenter even though a rarely bother watching the tv weather.. Well done Dan!

I agree.
I thought Daniel's forecast on TVOne tonight was top class with the graphics he has done with his weather presentation. I like his additions.

Re: Dan on TV1 weather
There was a highly amusing article about him in the Herald the other week. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment ... d=11386982
I certainly find him highly entertaining and he manages to communicate more technical concepts in a really easy-to-digest manner.

What about his back-ground?
Is he a trained meteorologist like Karen Oslen and Augie Auer were?

I think he worked for the UK Med office before coming to NZ and the Met Service.

Oh OK.
Tonight's presentation was quite good with some prognosis maps as well

HAHa, best joke ever- Karen Olsen a trained meteorologist
she has to be one of the worst presenters ever, always fumbles her words live and seems flakey ...actually a few workmates complained after huge innacuracies in her presentation one evening.

I believe she has only had a basic weather training session at Metservice, that's all.
There is one thing she does that really annoys me.... she keeps on saying "Hello there...." in a rather strange tone.
If your presenting weather for goodness sake, find a better phrase to introduce the weather other than "Hello there".

Re: Dan on TV1 weather
Don't give Karen heaps
I was accused of calling her in the 1980s of being a weather girl and I was given flak for that.
She has or had a speech impediment which she has got rid of, she finds it hard to say "Drizzle"
...but she came from MetService which was better than the other 'girly' presenters of those days

Re: Dan on TV1 weather
Personally I find Dan a bit of a cardboard cut out. He was on the BBC and has a training background but I find him a little unusual especially with some of his sayings...quirky and conservative perhaps.

I like TV1 weather but only because the graphics are better, but not a big fan of Dan. Neither am I a fan of any TV3 weather presenters. The breakfast weather guy (can't remember his name right now) I don't mind.

I think this forum as a whole has a tendency for being that way inclined Razor
