Cricket World Cup weather

Unread post by Razor »

Hi all- crucial topic this :D

Fingers are crossed for a good day here in ChCh on Saturday for the first game NZ v Sri lanka. Such an important occasion for ChCh and NZ

Thought it might be fun to follow the relvant weather as the games track round NZ.

Looking at Metvuw we should be ok for Saturday 14th at this stage, but early days yet and we all know what an effective droughtbreaker a scheduled cricket match can be sometimes!

Mestervice picking rain, but what's the point in looking at there forecasts when there is no human component!
Currently look dry but cool, highs in the teens.

Mixed in the models but the Met Service forecast looking reasonable at this early stage. GFS is drier though.

I did notice the Metservice computer was overdoing what the models were saying. It's a long way out for accurate forecasting but why did Metservice not give this day special attention as there is so much interest in this game.

The airmass is looking drier in the GFS so much less chance of pesky early morning low cloud/ possible drizzle hanging on. Temps will be cool.

Glad to hear the latest forecast! However Im staying at home to watch on the tele as i get a better view and i like the lounge to myself ;)
Have purchased a number of tickets though! lol
NZ play Scotland next Tuesday in Dunedin and then England in Welly Saturday next weekend-let's hope the weather gods smile and that we can ignore yesterday's warm up at Lincoln as a hiccup. Malinga is back for Sri Lanka though-eek!
For what it's worth Ive loved every second of the last summer or two but the stern test against SA tomorrow at the warm up at Hagley and Oz at Eden Park will be the ones to watch as we havent faced real pace and intensity from the quicks for sometime now! Go Black Caps!!

I'll be there literary "with bells on' , for the opening ceremony, as we are doing a Morris Dance as part of the opening performances with other various ethnic groups associated with the cricketing world.

Went down to the Hagley Oval at lunchtime today to check out the warm up match. What a great set up with the temporary seating etc, Saturday is going to be a special occasion thats for sure.

Incidentally, NZ pounding the South African bowlers to all parts with a massive 331/8 off the 50 overs.

Just come back home from the opening ceremony.
Good night and thankfully a fine night for it and also thank goodness the NE had died down.
If it had been raining might of been a different story.

Great to see Metservice have a Cricket stadium forecaste page.
The next 6 weeks are the most reliable for settled weather in NZ so lets hope the weather can play it's part with plenty of dry weather, no tropical cyclones.

Is that precip I can see om the Canterbury radar. The forecast sounding shows very little moisture so it would be unlucky to have the game affected. 850mb temp on 0C which is particularly cold for mid feb.

We will call the cool conditions today home advantage.

Looks humid/damp in Melbourne today for the game over there, dewpoint 20C, showers and storms easing later.

Yeah, same here. might have to light the fire later.
At least the drizzly showers we are getting are not over Hagley Park.

Chch Aero's coolest calendar day T-max so far this summer was 13.3C on Dec 11
(or just 12.3C on Dec 10 based on 9am reset).

39C in Adelaide for the cricket there today, that's the temperature Sri Lanka would have preferred yesterday.

Looking superb for the games in Nelson and Dunedin over the first half of this week. Could be an upset on the cards in Nelson today if the Irish can snaffle Chris Gayle's wicket early on.

Not sure Scotland will be fancying their chances tomorrow though
