General March Weather
Our first day of autumn looking more like a typically classic day in Feb... lol
Another dry month? Hoping for a little more than anticipated this coming week…

Re: General March Weather
Indian summer is the last thing needed,no sign of decent rain in the models for the next week for the eastern areas, there is if you look at the MS 10 day, last night they had a classic for 7 day out, "showery westerlies', as if that even happens.
Warm night here with 17deg the low, wonder if we will reach the same high today as the last two days with 28deg.

Re: General March Weather
A prolonged period of Nw's looks on the cards with the end of the week looking windy hot and dry for the east so no end in sight of the dry.
Good heavy showers here on the west coast over night making it hard to sleep at times, 58mm from 6pm last night recorded here at kumara junction.

Re: General March Weather
The system over the north of the country late Wednesday/Thursday has the potential to be a significant rain maker.
Latest run of gfs is showing very moist subtropical airmass coupled with good upper level divergence/approaching jet stream.
Also possibility of embedded thunder. Something to keep an eye on.

Interested in the latest seasonal forecast? ExtendWeather.com just posted the latest three month temperature, rainfall and potential evapotranspiration deficit forecast for New Zealand with high res maps. These are updated every ten days using CFSv2 data and our own proprietary methods. Thanks to all our friends and collaborators for the support in getting the site live. It is looking like at least another couple of dry and unseasonaally warm months for those who need rain the most. www.extendweather.com

I can't wait until the scattered rain starts falling,
Probably wake up like the other morning with another heavy outburst, around 3:30am ?

Re: General March Weather
Just plenty of high cloud for the next couple of days unfortunately. The far north may catch the rain.

Re: General March Weather
Nice sunrise this morning but I couldn't really get an accurate colour representation on my camera
Was hoping that the rain would stay in the models... Looks like I should keep garden watering in my schedule!

Re: General March Weather
Longer range, I'm guessing we will have a west /southwest pattern affecting NZ weather at times for the next few weeks as the westerlies come a bit further north.

Re: General March Weather
Yes, quite a nasty looking weather set up for the weekend.
Possible severe squalls/thunder with the front over the west of the North Island.
Thundery over the South Island.
500mb gfs

Re: General March Weather
Have to see how far north the 500mb vortex actually comes on Saturday. But does look like a brief squally front in the afternoon and then an improvement.Manukau heads obs wrote:not cricket weather then on saturday
As for today, looks like Waikato could catch a heavy convergence shower this afternoon. High cloud will limit heating/instability though.

10 days out, but I see an intense tropical storm developing near Fiji and tracking this way. Fingers crossed.

Re: General March Weather
The weekend's system doesn't look to be much of a rain producer for eastern SI but looking ahead to 14th Metvuw have a cyclone that may bring something promising, but its the size that it could potentially be too.
