Re: General March Weather
rained all night here...24mm...just what the doctor ordered
looks like that frontal band is going to move through this morning...but there is another one off the coast yet...I wonder if that one will affect the cricket.....hopefully will have all moved through by this afternoon...low and front have been moving more steadily east overnight than models indicated

Re: General March Weather
A decent area of 500mb vorticity crossed overnight. Something like that will always generate showers. GFS was underdoing the precip.

Re: General March Weather
We ended up with 25mm in the end, nice! 20mm of that fell between 6am and 9am. Looks to be clearing up now. Graph shows rainfall accumulation last 12 hours.

Re: General March Weather
16mm here yesterday.
The next system coming in looks to be aimed more at the South Island than here. Some instability there as well!

Re: General March Weather
I recorded 25mm - it was quite heavy again 9-10pm. Really wasn't expecting as much as that. I don't recall GFS showing much precip for us yesterday?NZstorm wrote:16mm here yesterday

Looking like El Nino indicators are gaining traction again (sea temperatures in eastern pacific and SOI)

Re: General March Weather
Was very foggy here a couple of hours ago with visibility down to 50m at times. Has lifted and I can now see trees a few hundred metres away. The very low cloud/fog causing problems for flights landing (taking off OK) with three in racetrack holds out over Pegasus Bay.
EDIT: Spoke too soon - light southerly developed and visibility has dropped to less than 100m here.

Re: General March Weather
Late showers again here today though just 2mm here.
The sholwater index values over Otago/Southland tomorrow are in the negative which is a good indicator for elevated thunder spreading from the west. The sholwater is just the lifted index when the parcel is lifted from 850mb.
The west of the North Island may catch some rumbles early Sunday but it ones of those iffy set ups due to warm temps aloft.

Re: General March Weather
Yes, another muggy autumnal day. Shame about the lack of sunshine today.
Should be some heavy showers tomorrow morning/isol thunder with that front in the west reaching Auckland as well.
An isolated early morning tornado can not be ruled out for north Taranaki given the subtropical moisture/low level directional shear.

Re: General March Weather
We had 2mm before 9am, but then dry conditions for the rest of the day. Showers seemed to be focused on central suburbs today.NZstorm wrote:More showers today, 10mm in Grey Lynn.

Lots of thunder and lighting here on the coast now too but still not much rain.
