Re: Frosts 2015
Only down to minus 0.6C this morning, with not much frosting around here but more so around Templeton and some parts of the city might have got a lower reading as there were reports of icing on car's windscreens.

Frosts 2015
First negative for the year here. Just -0.7. The wind never fully died away. Would have been much colder otherwise.

You seem to get a lot colder on calm clear nights then what I get even though I'm hard up against mountains and at a higher elevation..Richard wrote:Hard frost again with -7.5 deg

Re: Frosts 2015
Interesting to see your low overnight temperatures under high pressure. The METARS for Christchurch Airport give a minimum of -2*C, but this is followed by a day maximum of about 12*C. Here in the UK under similar conditions (and I appreciate further away from the equator + with a lower sun angle) we would see max temps of up to around 5*C and nearer freezing if the o/night lows were nearer the -7*X experienced inland by Richard + Andy. What day maxes do you inland guys get under these clear/sunny set-ups?

Re: Frosts 2015
This mornings frost is very heavy for this early in the season, gees and we are not even in winter yet,my two gauges in the screen this morning are showing -9.5 and -9 deg doh while i do ask myself why is the nearby recording station at Culverden only showing -5 deg,but how high above the ground level do they have it?,one of NIWA's stations which is 2 kms SE of me have there's what looks about 2.5-3m up https://www.google.co.nz/maps/@-42.8976 ... !2e0?hl=enSimon Culling wrote:Interesting to see your low overnight temperatures under high pressure. Simon - today because the center of the high over us will be starting to move to the east the daytime temps should creep a little higher than yesterday's 12deg, we may get up around the 15deg mark.

The Canterbury Plains tend to have cold air drainage down towards the coastmatttbs wrote:You seem to get a lot colder on calm clear nights then what I get even though I'm hard up against mountains and at a higher elevation..Richard wrote:Hard frost again with -7.5 deg
