Yes, a bit windy as the gust front came through @1558hrs here. NW to Southerly with an associated temperature drop of 5C in about 10 minuets

big upper level lightning this morning over toward cambridge ways, heard the rumbles slightly but constant lightning from 6am for around 30mins fanning out into the clear morning sky.

Sudden change from mild and dry to cold and windy in Akaroa about 3.30pm, with showers coming in with the change. (felt like a bit of hail initially in big raindrops) Wind gusts up to gale force.

We've just had a tiny hail/kind of snow shower come over in Hornby. The radar shows that its isolated. How strange.

Feeling more like June here today, only 15-16C this afternoon. Looking forward to the fine weather coming up next several days!

Ave temp 13.3°C
Ave Minimum 8.9°C
Ave Maximum 18.9°C
Minimum 1.8°C on 29th
Maximum 29.3°C on 4th
Rainfall 80.4mm with 44.6mm on 27/28th, YTD 163.6mm

A warmer and a bit wetter than average April here.

A fairly warm April overall, albeit mostly cloudy apart from the north and east of the North Island. Very wet in some western areas and South Canterbury, but notably dry in the Far North, Gisborne and North Canterbury…

Yes, around 100mm SW of Chch, which is about twice that area's April normal, but much dryer to the NE.

Meanwhile in the SW of the North Island, Palmerston North Aero's 252mm was more than 4 times its normal (although only 152mm about 6 km further south near Massey Uni).
Hawera, Wanganui and Paraparaumu also recieved more than 3 times their April normals.

Here's NIWA's preliminary, 'April 2015 National Climate Summary'.

A wet and warm month for many parts of the country.


The national average temp of 14.1C was 0.9C above normal.

The month's highest temp of 30.4C was recorded at Cheviot on the 7th, and the lowest of -4.8C was recorded at Hanmer Forest on the 15th.
