So umm MS have gone a bit umm... crazy!!

Showers, falling as snow to near sea level at first, becoming confined mainly to Banks Peninsula towards midday. Snow level gradually rising.Strong cold southwesterlies, gale gusting 100 km/h about Banks Peninsula.

Thoughts?

Metservice updated Sever weather watch

"This Watch is for the possibility of significant snowfalls to low levels through to Tuesday morning over Dunedin and North Otago. Note, snowfalls are also likely about parts of Banks Peninsula and the Canterbury Plains above 200 metres, although amounts are not expected to reach warning criteria in these areas."

Funny how they have gone from 400-500m to now saying snow to 200m. I dont get why they dont go lower with there predictions. I would rather that and it doesnt happen than the other. Fingers crossed we see some snow soon.

Any actual rain showers are now more a mix of hail and sleet than anything here, on and off but certainly more frozens falling than anything.
Close to gale gusts and 6C currently.

There is a possibility of showers training through the Christchurch area overnight and early morning, with the instability bringing the snow down to near sea level after midnight. However, if the convergence line is further east towards Banks Peninsula, the city may just get showers and hail with snow most likely on the Port Hills.

Edit to add: rain looks awfully slow here at present.
