Yea we got 74km out of that squall. Not quite the 103 you got Brian but was enough to notice there was a squall.

Wow, some really severe winds have just passed through here. Seriously strong. I was outside and it was rather scarey for a short time.

That last decent shower suddenly intensified over the Rotorua Lakes then promptly died back again. Could the lakes' surface, still being relatively warm, have caused that?

Very interesting......
It makes me remember a forecast in the summer just gone in the thunder outlook. Metservice mentioned "convergence zones caused by sea and lake breezes.....". That was the first time I've seen them mention lake breezes.

10.6 degrees at the moment - the coldest of the year so far lol!
Nothing interesting here so far, hope to hear some thunder or hail early morning when the upper cold pool moves in...

Re: Thunder, Squalls (13 to 14th April)
Didn't notice any thunder here. 7.2C here this morn and 19.5mm here in the last 24 hours. Still looks quite wet to the NW but blues-skies out east.
Pretty windy last night though. That 94 km/h gust is also fairly high for the airport, along with 85 km/h at Whangaparaoa and around 90 km/h at Tiritiri and the Waitemata.

Just heard a distant rumble. Not sure where it came from as there is nothing too ominous looking on the radar...
