Re: General May Weather
That sounds like quite a busy storm, many peals of thunder since my last post and rain just beginning here.

Quite spectacular lightning: had time to count only 2 seconds between last flash and thunder.

Re: General May Weather
Strange how the severe thunderstorm watch map does not align with the regular thunderstorm outlook map. The regular outlook includes Auckland city area in the downpour risk zone, but the severe thunderstorm watch map doesn'tlittleheaven wrote:Yes, also a severe thunderstorm watch in place for Auckland up, and Coromandel. Re: General May Weather
Just seeing moderate rain on the radar, no red anywhere. Always risk of a few elevated IC rumbles.

Here's this morn's T-storm Outlook for today…
MetService - Thunderstorm Outlook
Valid to: Midnight Saturday 23 May 2015
Issued at: 8:59am Saturday 23 May 2015
A low pressure system and active rainband is expected to move in an east to southeast direction across northern New Zealand today, bringing a period of heavy to areas of the upper North Island. There is a moderate risk of localised downpours of 25 to 40mm/hr with this rainband, affecting Northland, Auckland (particularly northern and eastern areas), Coromandel Peninsula and the western Bay of Plenty this morning and afternoon, and Gisborne later in the afternoon and evening. Please see the latest SEVERE WEATHER BULLETINS for further details. Additionally there is a low to moderate risk of thunderstorms embedded in the heavy rain band.
Behind the low and rainband, a cold front is forecast to move across the upper North Island, bringing a moderate risk of a few thunderstorms to Northland,Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula and the western Bay of Plenty in the afternoon and evening. A lesser risk of thunderstorms extends southwards over northern parts of Waikato and the eastern Bay of Plenty.
Elsewhere, no thunderstorms or significant convection expected.

Re: General May Weather
Back in paradise but I will miss those US thunderstorms, powerful thunderstorms for most days of our trip over there
Looks like a low chance for thunder here next 3 or 4 days as some cold air moves across, a humid airmass here this afternoon might help generate a heavy shower.
