Re: General June Weather
Big difference in temperature! Must be 15/16 here
That change this afternoon. . Hmm yeah a chance. .think id still stick with low risk, while there is a strong westerly flow its also a strong SW Change. Cold sea surface temperatures wont help either. Coastal southerly buster for me, could be photogenic

Re: General June Weather
It has got really warm all of a sudden here in christchurch must be 17-18deg already with that norwest and the high cloud has just disappeared. What are the chances of decent thunderstorm this afternoon with the wind change? I'm thinking it might come through a bit too late.
I'm no expert but I love severe weather!

Re: General June Weather
Already have had more snowfalls in the last 30days than all of last winter combined, more snow flurries last night....And we are only just getting into winter! Can't wait to see how the next few months play out.

Wind's changed to southerly/SE in the past few minutes; much low dark cloud swirling and scudding in various directions;
for now, still sunny; 13.9°C.

Re: General June Weather
The gust front was a bit messy. The temp drop was fast when the southerly change arrived.

Re: General June Weather
Yes. I stopped in Curraghs Road on the way home from work to look at the gust front cloud but it didn't look all that substantial enough. When it passed over there was the usual wind gust but not all that significant.
Some hail in a shower when I was feeding the chooks around 4:45pm.
Temperature drop of 7C in about half an hour with the southerly.

Re: General June Weather
The weather has really sucked here recently! Dull grey skies with only brief moments of sunshine for a few days now, and a chilly wind blowing all the time, although at least it's not quite as windy today.
Can't wait for the next anticyclone...

I prefer this type of weather pattern, I like the 10C mornings, dislike the cold nights/mornings the anticyclones bring.

Re: General June Weather
I'm enjoying the sunny weekend here after the dull start to the month. Even so, MTD sun to 14th will be a tad below average.
I don't just divide patterns here into anticyclonic & disturbed in such a binary fashion as my preferred types - drier & sunny - arise from subclasses of both of these.
For me, the decreased number of "true" southerlies and increased number of south-westerly events already making itself felt is welcome.

Surely a cold morning is worth enduring if it means a sunny day to followspwill wrote:I prefer this type of weather pattern, I like the 10C mornings, dislike the cold nights/mornings the anticyclones bring.

Yup the weather here the last few days has been horrid. Near gale wind continuously blowing with skiffy showers every 10 mins. Utter crap!

Depends on how cold it is, but yes in the Winter months I prefer some cloud and breeze with the 10C early mornings.
The anticyclonic pattern is not all sunshine and light winds, can be trapped cold air through the day with cloudiness and fogs

Re: General June Weather
Had an impressive front pass through at about 2:15pm this arvo. Sky went very black, then very strong winds, hail and then snow. Temp dropped from 12.5°C to 5.5°C in about 10mins, with pressure rising over 1hPa in same time. Then it cleared quickly to lovely sunshine.
Now it's cooling very nicely, currently at 3.3°C. Should be on our way to a decent frost if the fog stays away.
Will be nice to see the sun for a few days - rained every day except 1 so far this month. Some days only recorded 1 tip, but it's all been genuine stuff - pretty damn miserable.

Re: General June Weather
Briefly heavy overnight showers in Akaroa, and a dusting of snow visible above about 400-500m. (hardly melted during day - traces still on ground at Hilltop at 4.30pm)
Could see big clouds to south and east in afternoon, looks like they've come ashore this evening according to radar.
