Been raining steadily most of the time from 1am, recorded 8.3mm as of 8am. Looking at the radar and the main blob isn't really penetrating further north than Dunsandal

Yep, i'm quite a distance from the hills now only 95m asl as well. Plenty of the gravel roads around here have got water right across them at the moment

Lost the sunshine and has started to look a bit more threatening.

Good luck with you Richard for some sort of precipitation.
Light but steady rain here all day in overcast and calmish conditions despite a falling glass.

Wet stuff here in Chch now. Looking at the news tonight I looks like remarkable snowfalls on the Otago fields. Hope Dunedin dries up, earthquake and flood in one week there!

wow that was less rain in north canterbury than you would have thought
with EL nino building long term its not really all that good news for getting the drought broken there

I dont know about that Brian,i think its just been bad luck that we have missed the rains that's produced floods in other parts of NZ,if that weather system of the last few days had crossed further north we would have likely have coped that rain that hit Otago.
But if come end of Aug and there's been little rain then i would think there would be a low chance once those spring westerly's kick in.....still plenty of time yet ;-)
