Some moderate spillover rain here with the odd heavy burst e.g. 18mm/h about 15 minutes ago.

Re: General July Weather
A rumble of thunder possible afternoon or evening for west and south Auckland. There has not been much instability this winter.

Re: General July Weather
Yes it has been a quiet season for thunder, perhaps an El Nino Spring will deliver some action.
Cbs are forming in the Tasman but little in the way of thunderstorm activity showing up, the numbers in the GFS do point to a thunder/hail risk today.

From what I observed the thunderstorm was west and south of the Manakau harbour.
Went up Mt Roskill and took a photo

Fairly decent one-clap-wonder from the cell over SW Waiheke at 5:10pm.
Still dry here on the NW side though.

General July Weather
The snow level is just above the top of the desert road at the moment. I'm sitting up the top and have sleet with the odd flake in the mix.

Re: General July Weather
There are definitely a fair few people that do suffer from this, there have been an unusually large amount of grumpy people at work lately, will be interesting to see if this number decreases once the cold change comes through today. I hope it does!!!Richard wrote:Being in an area that gets lots of NW wind it can be a bonus this time of year, not the best place for those who suffer from the 'mad dog NWwester' though

Got woken by hail at midnight.
Grey Lynn July rainfall is 127mm which is about average I think.

Re: General July Weather
Some (but not all) models are predicting the MJO to return to a moderate phase 7 in about a weeks time, which is the phase which favours development of low pressure in the Tasman Sea and over NZ. Expect to see the models favouring troughs and depressions over and around New Zealand for a while around that time frame.SnwAddct wrote:Looking like a return to cold snowy weather next weekend
