JMA Himawari-8: 10-minute satellite is here!
New Zealand section here at bottom: http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/ramsdis ... wari-8.asp
(not sure why right now it thinks it's night time though...)
Fully customisable here with lots of channels, HUGE images and animations, but not the most user-friendly. (Go Layers --> 'All' tab --> Himawari)

Yes, I was aware that the data was going to come out soon from this newest satellite from the JMA. Fantastic 10 min updates!
Thanks for posting the links Willo. It will be great to see Thunderstorms developing in front of your eyes from an upper level perspective.

Cool, thanks for the link. Wow, what a lot of options. As a lay-person, what would you suggest the best filters to use would be, for looking at storms, wind, and rainfall? I'm viewing the Global Precipitation preset at the moment, having a look at this afternoon's potential heavy rain incoming.
Edited to add: Found what I was looking for. Impressive!

Bureau of Meteorology release their Himawari package: http://satview.bom.gov.au/ (Can zoom over to NZ). Weatherzone will have their imagery coming online very soon.
They did a cool introductory video for it, too - comparing with the old MTSAT
When will the MetService do the same? Or will the public still be left with a laughable 3-hourly image and end up last?

Looks good alright, which that piece across the bottom could be removed so we can see NZ better

If you take a close up look in the Gulf of Cappentaria you can clearly see the morning glory this morning

Yep it's going full-throttle everyday now.Richard wrote:If you take a close up look in the Gulf of Cappentaria you can clearly see the morning glory this morning
Remember to check under 'layers' the coastal box to show the outline of NZ (handy if you're using visible greyscale).
