And now a shower of small soft hail here in Amberley.
edit - a few mins later now turned to full on sleet, quite heavy rain and melting snow mix.

Radar still not picking anything up in the area, except off the coast? How interesting! Chilly but sunny here in Christchurch but can see a few formations still to the NWTonyT wrote:And now a shower of small soft hail here in Amberley.

Going by the MS 3 day maps there is now a corridor of moisture running inland north canterbury which would support why its doing what it is, also some areas near the penninsula and south of there that could get an isolated icy shower or two this afternoon.
It has clouded over all of a sudden, i think the radars are working by the looks im not sure why its not picking it up though.

I would guess the cloud is very low topped, and this far from the radar source, the beam is firing over the top of the precipitation. Everything is soaking wet out here now.Storm Struck wrote:Going by the MS 3 day maps there is now a corridor of moisture running inland north canterbury which would support why its doing what it is, also some areas near the penninsula and south of there that could get an isolated icy shower or two this afternoon.

Interesting: can see "cauliflower clouds" rearing up to my NNW; a layer of lower cloud this side of them.

It appears the Canterbury radar is actually down, and may have been for some time, which would explain why we haven't been able to see any of the showers.

3.2 here with clear crisp conditions. If I didn't know any better I would be expecting to wake up to a fine frosty morning here, which I note is in apparent agreeance with Tony's forecastBradley wrote:Christchurch airport now 1.8C
Seems to be a few minor speckles showing up on the radar (now working)

Been very heavy snow here since 4, already a good 5 cm's settled on the road and with the temp only 0.2 roads will be bad
Re: South Island snow - July 6-10
Yep snow has arrived in Dunners, just had a Sneet (snow/sleet ) shower here, with some settling on the car, should be a fair bit more overnight so a good chance of a snow day, hopefully!!
