The low cloud to my south/south-east looks very oppressive. :-k

Going by port hills the snow line is above 500m now, anything up there earlier is almost totally gone with the last shower

Regular sleety showers passing through Amberley since about 3pm. Sometimes mostly rain, sometimes half melted snow, and with the temp around 3deg it must be right on the marginal melting zone.

Had a mixture of showers here, hail showers then sleet and at the moment rain. Will be interesting to see what it is like up in Methven tomorrow, was a light sleet shower up there when I left just after 2.30pm this afternoon. At the moment we have a rather strong southerly wind blowing here and temperature is dropping.

A bit colder than expected this evening Tony? On a side note eastern Australia is looking especially cold with two low pressure systems due to cause some havoc. Some are forecasting temps 10 deg below average for this time of year. Quite significant considering the cold temps will stretch right into Queensland

Interesting how the line of chain showers that you normally see over or near CHCH are further inland, its been snowing now none stop for a hour and the way the line is running should get a lot more too.

I heard reports of around 10cm of snow around lanarch castle yesterday morning which is a decent amount but nothing too extraordinary. Seems the heaviest faĺls were exactly where metservice predicted with their heavy snow warning. Don't think it got much higher than 20cm though?

I think yesterdays snow over Dunedin was the fourth fall for the Dunedin Hill suburbs this winter. The Highgate web cam was showing only a lightish fall when I looked, shower clouds never looked very deep on the satellite pics.

When the clouds break between showers I can see snow very low down on the hills around Amberley, probably down to about 100m, but none in Amberley, just sleet overnight.
