Cant be any good, I'm not in it! Clearly the person running it has no grasp of how the weather market works in New Zealand outside of the FB ecosystem.

Re: Weather awards?
I'm not even sure that all of the pages they listed are actually businesses? Considering he called it "Business Weather Awards", you'd think that would be a requirement.TonyT wrote:Clearly the person running it has no grasp of how the weather market works in New Zealand outside of the FB ecosystem.

It means nothing. Not the first time I've seen this weather business award facebook comp pop up. A promise of prizes that don't exist not that any "real" company could care less.

The eventual winner of this highly prestigious award will also be, by coincidence the award organiser (who ever it is).

I'm guessing it's just Facebook spam phishing for peoples email address, names and phone numbers.

Re: Weather awards?
Is it that many? Metservice, and who else? I thought that Philip Duncan had no meteorology qualifications (hence why he calls himself a "weather analyst" rather than a meteorologist), and the Canterbury Weather Updates guys trained as PE teachers. What about the Blue Skies guy?spwill wrote:How many NZ weather companies have trained meteorologists ? 3 perhaps.
That's what I thought. Surely if it were a serious thing, they would have contacted the companies directly rather than just leaving a comment (with bad spelling btw) on their facebook pages.Nev wrote:I'm guessing it's just Facebook spam phishing for peoples email address, names and phone numbers.

Re: Weather awards?
Jealous, I bet that sea weed wrangling certificate has paid for itself over and over. I went wrangling the other day but when I got pulled up by the fisheries they saw I had no certified sea weed technician so It all got confiscated along with my muckboots, boat, big yellow raincoat, dog, toaster and the in laws. Those bloody fisheriesTonyT wrote:B.Sc in geography, courses with the WMO, nearly 30 years earning a full time living from forecasting, certificate in sea weed wrangling.dizzy wrote:What about the Blue Skies guy?

So did anyone actually win? The winner was meant to be annouced on September 1st (US time?).
Interesting that the widow of SurveyMonkey's recently deceased CEO is also Facebook's COO.
