Re: General August Weather
The overnight tough only brought cloud with not even a slight breeze, noticed the smoke from the logburner going up vertical which is something you dont see often.

Re: General August Weather
Anyone notice the smoky sky this morning, looked up Australia bush fire alerts and there's quite a number of controlled burns going on at the moment.
Anyway enjoying the extra warmth the suns providing now that the days are getting longer, today should be lovely after a heavy frost,

Re: General August Weather
Our flowering cherries are in full bloom now. Scores of honey bees buzzing around them, and heaps of tuis as well! Counted 14 tuis in them at one point.

Re: General August Weather
I have noticed large numbers of Tui in the flowering cherry as well.
A stunning day today with the heat coming back into that sun. Also some distant afternoon showers.
The trough on Tuesday looks weak for Auckland with just a few sprinkles.

Re: General August Weather
A tropical air mass showing up over us in about a weeks time, hope that holds, better than the usual polar air mass this time of year.

Nice to have lost those polar air mass though we will still get a few more yet.
A lovely NW wind this morning instead of the frosts of the last three mornings.

Most of NZ seems to be colder than normal so far this month, but not by much in the North Island.

Re: General August Weather
Gfs has some reasonable rain for Auckland tomorrow. But atmos is stable. Looks like 10mm event.
Could possibly be some instability with next system in 6 days time.
I watched a live stream of a lightning active storm over Queensland tonight. Seems their thunder season is underway. They have a subtropical jet stream to fire up the storms.

Re: General August Weather
I see there was a tornado at Dubbo, NSW today
The moist air over eastern Australia last day or two is heading our way for early next week, have to wait and see how it will affect NZ weather.

Re: General August Weather
That weekend front for Auckland looks weak but the system early next week will be active with heavy rain for northern region.
Could be inland snow for the South Island next week too but thats Septembers thread.

Re: General August Weather
Some rainy weather to end August but atleast a milder air mass in the mix.
I think the GFS might be overdoing the cold over the South Island early/mid next week.

Re: General August Weather
GFS is usually pretty good with the temps, tends to overdo the moisture levels pretty regularly though! In saying that though there does seems to be some really interesting numbers being thrown up next week for places like Hanmer Springs, could be a white start to September for them!
