What I meant was, councils have funded the cost of MS setting up additional sites. The 2 Kaikoura sites on their website consist of their oldest one in the centre of the peninsular and the more recent one at the airport in Peketa. The majority of MS's AWS's are at airports, mainly because they're in the business of providing aviation reports.Richard wrote:Yes Kaikoura is a great example, there recording site was moved from out at the point to now situated at the foot of a north facing bank.Nev wrote: I believe some councils unhappy with the temps shown on TV have in the past paid MetService to set up a more flattering site. Jim Salinger used to refer to this practice as 'temperature for tourism'.

Re: General August Weather
The oldest one in the center of the peninsular was moved to the middle of town to take advantage of a warmer situation meaning there's quite a difference between that one and the one at Peketa airport.
