Re: Polar Blast - August 7-11
Tomorrow night could well be very interesting I think MS could be onto something there, the upper trough that comes through should bring heavy showers hail and reasonably deep convection.
The combination of the denser clouds and capacity should bring that snow level right down possibly even to near sea level even so dont be surprised to see the odd flurry or sleet.
Normally convection is limited at this time of year due to little heating and cooler sea surface temps, but this trough has quite the omph.
Im happy to focus on this first before getting onto the Sunday/Monday stuff.

I see NIWA are modelling snow for Christchurch. 4.7cm between 1am and 3am. Though the information is very non-specific about where in Christchurch.

A friend has put pics on facebook of snow falling in Franz Josef. Now that's quite unusual!

Getting a little bit unstable out there now with a few showers developing, should be an interesting rest of the day maybe a clap of thunder later on too.
