Worsening forecast for Auckland for Saturday - it had better not cause any airport problems in the evening!

Auckland airport is only very rarely affected by high winds
(would need to be 50 knots to stop domestic flights)
a S or SE wind though is a cross wind

Looking like the gfs and European can't agree on the evolution of the low pressure system over the north of the country Sunday/Monday. Looking like the subtropical jet will interact with the polar trough so some development definitely on the cards.

Re: General September Weather
No problem then. After a dull first few days this month has been quite sunny so far
NZ mtd temps well below average so far from today's NIWA charts. Going to San Francisco and central Arizona, SF temps prob. near normal after recent heatwave.

Stunning weather on the western side of the mountains. Hit 18.4°C so far with wall to wall sunshine. That southerly does have a bit of a chill to it, but it's doing nothing to spoil the great day.

Congratulations
I once was a moderator (or "Charcoal-erater", thanks to Willoughby), but I was glad I gave that up.
Anyway, back on topic, looks like a wet week coming up for Canterbury and some other eastern places, especially from Kaikoura northwards. Richard may get the occasional spit or two

Re: General September Weather
OK, so Weatherwatch says the equinox is tomorrow, 23 Sep. But the days starting becoming longer than the nights on 20 Sep?

Re: General September Weather
Hope Richard is getting some rain. It looks increasingly unlikely we'll get anything at all substantial here in town

Re: General September Weather
Looks like this system will just deliver drizzly rain from the East or NE, with a light southerly blowing here.
Not really El Niño weather if these type of systems continue?

Re: General September Weather
Maybe we are going to get a "late" start to spring?
