Interesting sky here to the south however, cloud layers look flat.
Moderate NE developed here this afternoon, a bit cool.

Had a bit of thunder here in the last hour. The storm at midday was a good one though. Lightning struck the road outside my work which is a busy area of town so pretty lucky. Hopefully some impressive storms in Canterbury soon too.

Flashing away quite nicely but looks low level.
One or two rumbles heard
but now things look as the cold southerly now move through.
It is with it coming onto rain and the wind direction is SW. :(

Drove not far from here to Springston and seen some good lightning while driving, but by the time we pulled up it died down.
Not too bad considering upper air was only -25c especially for early spring, but i think the NE revamped it as it went north of Ashburton.

Me and Steve had the same luck, saw lightning and went to get into position then it died down. Oh well, looks promising for a good season ahead.

The thunderstorm risk will develop over the upper North Island Sunday as the upper level polar trough comes north. Some heavy falls of small hail on the cards for Sunday also!

This El Nino is showing itself as a cool/cold El Nino for September atleast.

Upper cold system lurking into next week, likely to be some thunder days there for some locations

The models for the week coming up are now looking very promising, maybe not so for areas that dont need rain but there's many farmers around here who are very hopeful that this could be the drought beaker

For north eastern South Island there four days of good rains coming up.
