Re: General October Weather
Looking like a windy week ahead. There is another potent trough to cross Wednesday with the potential for high winds.
Auckland missing the wind events and staying dry and hopefully not too much anticyclonic gloom. Stratocumulus.

Re: General October Weather
I see the strong SW'er is producing "hogs back" type clouds over the BOP. Does this often happen there?

Often above the Kaimais in these conditions. Looks like we have a month or 2 of this now "salty".Interesting weather of last few months just a memory now. Like the lenticular cloud on the other topic. They are the ones that can produce lightning and light rain [big drops]. Have seen it only once in Canterbury so probably a rare occurance.

Re: General October Weather
Nice afternoon in central Auckland, seems a little hazy though. Anyone else noticed this?

2.3 degrees here at present, and one of the most beautiful dawn skies I've seen, with the crescent Moon and Venus close together and the sunrise-colours just beginning to show on the horizon.

Very stunning morning here with the star and moon. The Stars were stunning at 3am too.Orion wrote:2.3 degrees here at present, and one of the most beautiful dawn skies I've seen, with the crescent Moon and Venus close together and the sunrise-colours just beginning to show on the horizon.

Re: General October Weather
Good chance to spot Venus in daylight this morning. It will also pass behind the moon as seen from NZ (D Disappearance, R Reappearance).
Apologies for OT but the "occultation" doesn't happen very often.

Article from The Star. Turned out ok, never at too sure with theses things. 40min interview later they ended up with this: http://thestarepaper.newspaperdirect.co ... iewer.aspx page 6.

Re: General October Weather
Its been two weeks since the last rain here, looking at the models there is little to none forcasted. El Nino start to show her signs of what is coming up.

Re: General October Weather
I can't see any meaningful convection over the South Island tomorrow (apart from Alps) as the shortwave comes in too late late in the day and even then upper levels are not very cold. But there is a decent cold system in the pipe line a week from now.
Top of the country is well and truly stuck in an upper ridge which I don't mind if we can get some sun! Anticyclonic stratocumulus this weekend and possibly a lot of that weather to come between now and Xmas.
Good story Steve!

Re: General October Weather
Silly thing to do to get sunburnt.
Had a great day here on the ride-on, mind you I had my hat on.
Good day here for photosynthesising
