Re: General October Weather
Good forecasting Tim.
The set up is for Northland only with little if any thunder prospects south of Wellsford.

Re: General October Weather
Picked up 7mm over the last two days, but its not what i would call 'useful' as Karen off TVNZ put it. At least the drying NW winds have been absent lately.

Re: General October Weather
The 7 day rainfall map isn't too bad for NZ. Looks like good precip today and again next Tues/Wednesday.

Re: General October Weather
Nice funnel cloud there Jamie.
Perhaps something interesting can develop over Northland this afternoon if some clearance of the low cloud can occur, humid conditions up there this afternoon.

Sounds like quite heavy rain again at the moment, and has become quite dark.

Re: General October Weather
The front that has stalled over the Kapiti region overnight and this morning seems to have dumped some decent rain in the Tararuas. Word from up the coast is that they have had 35mm since midnight down at the beach, but the Waikanae Rivers is running high.
Yet in Wellington we have only had very light drizzle on and off this morning (<3mm)

Re: General October Weather
We had a very heavy hailstorm earlier this evening just South of Kaikohe which is fairly unusual and had us all rushing to have a look. This was one of the heaviest hailstorms I can remember in 30 years of living here. It wasn't particularly cold at the time. We've had a fair bit of rain today as well on and off, and its still raining quite hard, but the ground is just soaking it up. Sorry - no measurements available.

Not a terrible amount of Lightning in Northland Today:- A few convective plumes over Northland but hardly any Lightning today at all. Must check the Whenuapai sounding.

Re: General October Weather
Nice funnel cloud shot Jaimie
Its certainly been a change lately from the warm dry weather, much cooler but only 8mm over 3 days most of that fell yesterday as today's front was very brief in the end.
The rain is good but it would be nice if we could have some thunder chances too

Sounding at 10 AM today, shows a similar output to the forecast (at least for Whenuapai), parcel turning stable from 850hpa onwards. Would like to see this evenings sounding......

Re: General October Weather
Neat photo would that have been to high to have been felt on the ground?
We ended up get 16 mm over the last few days, though not a ground soaker it will help get the grass to put on a bit of fresh growth.

Awesome. Much fatter than the one I saw. Two in two days but nothing else to write home about. Scored a couple more mm this arvo with a convergence shower.

Re: General October Weather
It has been a stable October for NZ. Hopefully better troughing in November with less central Tasman high pressure, more rain for our farmers.
Orion, that looks to be a spot on the camera lens
