Cant see any really great chance for storms today. Metservice Outlook below:
Valid to: Midnight Sunday 8 Nov 2015
Issued at: 8:28am Sunday 8 Nov 2015

A weakening front and associated rainband is forecast to move onto the South Island West Coast today. There is a low risk of one or two elevated thunderstorms embedded within this rainband later this morning and afternoon, as indicated on the chart.

Meanwhile, a combination of afternoon heating, colder upper level temperatures and onshore winds are expected to produce showers over Southland, Otago and South Canterbury. There is a broad low risk of one or two of these showers turning thundery during the afternoon or early evening. However, this risk of thunderstorms is considered nearer to moderate south of the Rangitata River down to North Otago, as indicated on the chart. Any thunderstorms that eventuate are expected to produce localised heavy rain of 10 to 20mm per hour and also hail of less than 10mm in diameter.

No thunderstorms or significant convection expected elsewhere.

Maybe a low risk of storms but at least we are getting some steady rain at the moment

Just brought the washing in as a nice looking shower moves, should be some steady rain for a wee while now.

Given warm upper level conditions the storm would need to be elevated.

Trough mid week looks like it will produce a few storms for some parts of NZ, not much instability showing in the GFS with it however the upper levels are cold + time of year.

A humid day for Auckland tomorrow.

It was an amazing shower, it started quickly got rather heavy and stopped within about 30 sec. Showers from that NW wave cloud can be like that as you know.

I was up @ Mt. Eden this WE, not the mountain itself but in that area.
Nice weather but noticeable humidity today.

Yes, something like that. :(
I'm thinking now that the thunderstorm season looks likely, now, to be a non-event in Canterbury despite the strong prominence of the El Niño :-k

Very hot dry and windy in North Canterbury yesterday, I would say 70% of the non irrigated land has browned off now and looks mid summer like.

Looking like some convection on the cards over the Waikato/Auckland/Coromandel area tomorrow afternoon. Will depend on just how much of the upper level cooling can get this far north?

About 5mm. Most fell between about 10am and midday. Light drizzle at other times during the day.

Farmlands in Amberley is off Courage Road in the north part of the town. But Farmlands have stores all over rural New Zealand. Yes, we have provided forecasts for the old CRT for many years, and now rebranded as Farmlands for a few years. Its the only publicly accessible place on the web where you can read our forecasts. We do some other rural websites but they require login access.
