UKMET shows a surface southerly sneaking in there later in the day.Storm Struck wrote:It does look very coastal for Friday afternoon now, but I would say Birdlings Flat would be an excellent spo.
Queenstown/Wanaka/Tekapo should catch an elevated storm in the morning.

Some great "mare's tails" in the sky at present; also a faint rainbow halo around the sun.

Same thing observed from here, this afternoon, might be indicating something more interesting in the weather in the coming days.Orion wrote:Some great "mare's tails" in the sky at present; also a faint rainbow halo around the sun.

Re: General November Weather
There is a good crop of elevated storms out in the mid Tasman this morning.
Showalter index values will be negative over the north of the country tonight which points to an elevated storm risk. Possibly just a low risk but something to keep an eye on.

Re: General November Weather
There is a narrow area for some low topped CBs to get going this afternoon through more so inland Canterbury, due to wind convergences and a southerly change later on.
The upper level winds through mid canterbury are about 20kts so this should allow for some instability, maybe drifting towards Banks Penninsula this evening.
Wind is currently NE here with low cloud breaking, not the strongest set up days but something none the less.
It certainly is looking very warm next week, Wednesday to Saturday now temperatures could be breaking 30C and very warm overnight lows the farmers should be on high alert.

Re: General November Weather
Should be warm later on next week with NW expected to rise up again, sadly.
Hopefully, the wet NW along the divide, will bring lots of rain to keep the aqua-filters fed with lotsa water to keep wells topped up, as surface areas dry out with the lack of rainfall on them.

Windy here tonight with a few showers, currently 17C with a dewpoint 17C, gusty NW winds
I see some thunderstorm activity is occurring around kaipara north of Auckland, more in the Tasman.

General November Weather
Just had about 15 minutes of intense thunder and lightning here in Glenfield. It was continuous and very loud at one point.

Lightning flashes every few seconds as the storm passed just to the north. Rickys tracker clocked 1250 strikes in 30mins!

Re: General November Weather
Yup, quite active alright, and moving at a very fast speed
Amperage on these Lightning strikes being detected at the moment is very high, Thunderstorm activity significantly elevated for this to occur.

General November Weather
Have heard distant thunder all night now periodically but getting another very good storm right now with flashes every 3-5 seconds and almost constant thunder. Now quite as frequent as the earlier one.

Lots of thunder and lightning here in the last 2 hours. Great to get an extra 11mm overnight. Gives us a total of 20mm from this event.
