24-25 here with a light to moderate NE,far warmer than the eastern suburbs of ChCh where we left at 2pm

Todays 850mb temperature chart showing the heat bubble over NZ. As a rough rule of thumb add 15C to the 850's to get the potential max.
Temps topping 30C on some inland places again today.

Notice the highest temp on that chart is over northern North Canterbury, so 19 deg+ the 15 deg = 34deg, its got that feel about it already.

The current GFS is pushing a lot of humid weather our way over the next week with heavy rain/shower potential for northern NZ or will the dry air High to the south keep a lot of the humid wet weather out ? something to watch.

Yo, maybe some news emerging later. Lightning finished , was flickering every 1 or 2 secs an hour ago i c mostly. Would have been some surface flooding as it was slow moving.

The weather radar last night and tonight was/is showing precipitation off the West Coast, say 50km due West of Raglan. Not sure if really there, no clouds to be seen in that direction and nothing correlating on the visible satellite images.

According to metservice on Twitter it was caused by an inversion, was no actual precipitation out there

I like what GFS has done with the moisture for tomorrow. Brought it down towards Taupo where I will be.

As for the 3rd......wow!
