Heavy rain in the north 1-2 January
Time for a new thread for the upcoming heavy rain event! Rain looks to be starting late tonight in Northland and sometime tomorrow morning in Auckland. Looking like Eastern Northland and Coromandel will bear the brunt of the rain but GFS has some high totals for us as well

Heavy rain in the north 1-2 January
I don't normally fare too well in these events. Auckland can have 100mm and coromandel get a spanking but we get like 10mm. I'll hope for the best but expect much less than GFS is saying in this case.

Hasn't been as wet as forecast so far, not much rain around since 2pm. Still, better than nothing!

Matauri Bay had 43mm to 0900 today, and another 37mm from 0900 to 1500.
80mm total to 3pm
Looks like the second round will skim to the east of the Far North.

Very gusty in Glenfield. Our power went out about 15 minutes ago. Hooray for solar system with backup battery. Have enough to keep the lights, fridge and modem running for 3 hours.

Re: Heavy rain in the north 1-2 January
Colder than normal sea temps may be weakening the system as it moves southeast. Was expecting a lot more rain.Tomorrow looks like a heavier burst with the wind change pushing through. Not over yet today, all soaking in which is good for farmers.

Very high dewpoint temperatures tomorrow should give a better chance of localised heavy falls particularly where some heating can occur

Hardly any rain from this system around central Waikato so far. Only 3.0mm so far. Temps a touch cool at around 16-17, most probably limiting convective potential and resultant rain.

Clearly something has weakened it compared to what the models were showing. Only very light rain today, no heavy rain to be seen on the radar at all.

Heavy rain in the north 1-2 January
I'm currently sitting on 41mm from this. A nice drop. Pity it didn't come 2-3 weeks ago. Very little grass growth the past 2 weeks. This rain should turn the hills back green.
