Fine with light winds here this morning, big question will be will we get at least some rain with that system coming down from up north

Happy New year to all. Another brilliant day in prospect here. The sunny run in the latter part of December boosted our annual tally to its highest value since 2008 (helped by the fact that 2009 was a little below the 30-year average and 2010-2012 well below). Watering newish plants continues to be a priority.

,fine conditions here, well sheltered here from the northern low.

Hopefully a good soaking for Auckland today, very much need the rain there.

Still looking good for 15-25mm for your area Richard, let's hope the downgrade 24 hours out that became so common in 2015 isn't as big a feature in 2016!!

Tony is forecasting about that much but the MS at lot less, i hope Tony is right.

It's looking very La Nina-ish at the moment with Ula up there and easterly rain coming into Northland and Auck

A wee bit of light rain around noon but at least the sun is not beaming down, drying it all out.
Quite mild with hardly any wind. 0.7mm so far, the heaviest fall we have had so far this year

It will be a steamy day in the north tomorrow, temps in the late 20s in places with a dewpoint in the low 20s.

Sadly, the front is coning through early morning, so no lightning and thunder here but hopefully a good dollop of rain.
Isn't it funny when people say thunder and lightning when it should be other way round, just like at the cricket when a batsman is out because he has been caught and bowled!

Great to hear. It looks like your getting a really good drop now. Haven't seen so much rain on the radar in your area in a long time. Slow moving too!
