Frosts 2016

It's a cold one down here. My station got to a min of -2.3°C but it's in a poor location to record accurate mins and I need to move it. A station down the street is currently on -4.4°C. Interestingly, it's colder than yesterday but yesterday was much whiter, and today the car isn't even frosted over.
Dunedin Airport is on -7.1°C.

This morning frost here was so interesting, ive now worked out why it didn't get any colder after 10.00pm, there were warmer upper level winds that stopped any further radiative cooling, the NW wind cant have been that high above because the wind reached here about 9.00am which became rather pleasantly mild mid afternoon, just hope it keeps up.

The first frost of the winter and hopefully the last, but looking range, a cold high for next weekend.

Came close to frost at 10.30pm (1deg) then by 3.00 it was up to 10deg with the return of the WN wind again

Not too bad down here on/near the coast/harbour... But go inland it was a different story. Reports of serious Icing on SH 2, 5, 30, 33 & 36 etc in BOP area overnight. Tauranga got down to 1°C & Rotorua & Te Puke had reports of -1°C overnight. Needless to say a significant frost this morning.
