Re: General March Weather
Good bit of rain from this event. At last, the Southerly/SW not being useless this time.
31.4mm in all. Best rainfall for a long time.

Re: General March Weather
GFS picked todays convergence line up very well. At 5-7 days it can be all over the place but a good model within 72hrs.

you can see the easterly surge shower line between east cape and coromandel, in the BOP, on the rain radar.
The SW wind has died away here now and the barometer is rising

Re: General March Weather
Interesting set up for us in Western BOP tonight. Possible severe storms .Nothing on the radar yet but building this way, not a breath of wind.Whatever comes our way will be slow moving so big short duration totals possible.

Looking more like Wednesday/Thursday now.treetop wrote:Nothing exiting eventuated here . next Tuesday looks vollitile, another round of warnings no doubt
A tropical moisture hit for the country with Coromandal/Bay of Plenty and Nelson ranges being the likely bullseye for rainfall totals.
This could end up being significant for the Easter holiday commute.
Wind gusts of 90km/h also on the cards.

Re: General March Weather
Been warm down south with both Levels and Mamona getting up to 31C, today.
30C here with the NW breaking through around 3pm.
Looking interestingly warm for the next few days, especially from 5:30pm tomorrow, when Mabon happens.

Re:
The northward progression of the rain can be slow in these situations. Hokitika doesn't get its 2700mm without some work ... my son-in-law's nephew from the UK did a trip around NZ over Dec-Jan - got rained on a lot while on the West Coast in January, as I warned him. However it is fair to point out that average annual sunshine at Hokitika (manual equipment averages) was higher than for Timaru ...melja wrote:Just 4mm were I am just north of hokitika since Friday, the M/S really do a disservice to the people of the coast and probably cost them a good amount of visitors and their money. There forecast was for 3 days of heavy rain for hoki when its been very warm and humid with 23C and sunny on and off.

Re: General March Weather
Well Mabon has passed, so it's downslide to winter.
Hopefully, interesting weather will pick up?
Much more than the recent (thank goodness it is waning) the useless El Nino we have just had.

Re: General March Weather
Looks on the cards that we could top 30 degrees for the third day running today in Christchurch, and indeed the eastern seaboard as a whole
Not bad for mid March in fact has this happened before? At any rate this is going to reflect in another very warm month

Having a quick look at the long term records Razor I can;t even find 2 days in a row over 30C let alone 3 - remarkable!Razor wrote:Looks on the cards that we could top 30 degrees for the third day running today in Christchurch, and indeed the eastern seaboard as a whole

On a side note Wednesday evening through to Friday is starting to look very promising with up to 30mm for central Canterbury and almost double that for parts of North Canterbury - EC has been pretty consistent the last few runs which is encouraging...

Re: General March Weather
Jeffs station (nearest reputable station to us) has already hit 30. Yesterday topped out at 32.6 and Saturday 30.3.
ChCh Aero only 27 so far today but I suspect it will get there unless our favourite sea breeze intrudes
