Thanks for the lightning data Tim.
Looks like 2 main storm cells moved across. Otorohunga and north Waikato.

Re: General April Weather
Met Service had on their FB site the rain radar estimated totals too...
my neighbour recorded 40mm in his gauge...(which is what Pukekohe got..)..and he is only just down the road...
and yet I only got 22mm
but the rain radar showed it was a very sharp edge where the heaviest rain was...and I was right on the edge

General April Weather
We did a tally for June 1 to end of March rainfall. Dairy season is June 1 to 31 May and we are only 750mm. To reach our average of 1200 we will need 450mm in the next 6 weeks.
In other words it's going to be a very dry season for us which explains why we are just so dry.

A quiet weather outlook for NZ with the Highs dominating. There is a slight chance Northland may catch some thundery weather on Saturday.

Re: General April Weather
Looks like the latest gfs could be under doing the rain chances for the upper North Island this weekend. Both Ukmet and Eu suggest a wetter scenario. Upper level dynamics are not that great though but there is some good moisture there.

Re: General April Weather
GFS is showing very moist air over Northland tomorrow, a dewpoint of 19-20C . Upper air looks cool as well for a thunderstorm chance there, something to watch.

Re: General April Weather
No it's not. Did all this firewood and the days are not cold enough to enjoy it, well yetmelja wrote:Why are you not happy about it being warm John, its bloody great.
Warm days are OK but it's really annoying when you don't get a thunderstorm development out of it like what has occurred most days with this useless El Nino pattern we have just had. 99%of people are enjoying this weather but I find it quite non-eventful, sadly

Re: General April Weather
Only 7mm of patchy light rain for Howick. Could do with more, though that is the best rain in 3 weeks.

Re: General April Weather
Looking like a fine week with a trough due next weekend, and then fine again if you believe the gfs.
No cold outbreak on the cards for April.
