Low level Snow possibly and prolonged rain. 21 - 25 May

Unread post by talbotmj15 »

Looks to be some cold snowy/rainy stuff on the way over the next 5 days or so. The Lows out to the east of Chch and Wellington appear to be blocked by a high further east. Could be some heavy periods of rain and low level snow \:D/

No low level snow with this event. I see snow to 600m max for the mountains. Possibly 500m on monday

Maybe a prolonged bit of rain from what we have had since January events but nothing as significant as what I though may of been possible, from studying models patterns and researching into my past weather diaries, but as we draw into winter, such events could produce significant amounts of rain from what we have experienced of late. <3

Nothing to get excited about unfortunately going by the 3 major models though you wouldn't know it judging by some of the private weather analysists posts on Facebook!

As we move to a more LA Nina pattern, any snowfall, could, develop from a cold southerly hitting a warm "NE event" ? #-o

So much for the forecasted SSE storm here - haven't had one for ages and not happening now it seems. Not that I miss them.

This is an ongoing weather system developing all the time you guys, Admin can you please remove all this stuff about social media and facebook comments as it does nt need to be here. I come here to see whats happening with the weather not to read negative comments thanks. Id rather read from the pro weather gurus there thoughts on whats happening over the next few days. I noticed 528 thickness levels over Canterbury foothills wouldnt that be snow at that level? Thanks and sorry for the rant.

You need moisture for snow, sure it might be cold but the weather is also a bit coastal.
100mm of rain is needed for that 1m snow fall and that isn't happening in them foothills.
Came through the Lewis pass yesterday and the light dusting down to around 1300m.

For those who felt the need to have a go at me and my page. Can i point out a few things. Currently based on evidence gathered. Snow is falling to 300m in the Lower North Island. That is low level snow. Also of note is the fact that BP has had over 120mm of rain in the last 2 days. At the time of my post for the 1m snow the moisture was more inland and not so much SW. Based on the models. Also Met Service are expecting over 100mm around some parts of the South Island. Mt Cheesman has had over 30cm to Sat Morning and more is on the way tonight and tomorrow. So my forecast is not as far off as you some have made out on this thread. The Rimutaka hill is about to close according to the police as of 5 mins ago. If you need proof of low level snow then take a look at the camera at the top of the hill. Low level snow in Canterbury is possible still overnight with the next front due around midnight. So please i ask the administrators to deal with attacks on me as im a weather nut like most others on the page.

Where did you get your info about cheeseman from? I cant find anything updated from any of the clubbies since last year, and would be real keen to keep an eye on the snowpack. Avalanche advisory has 30-50 but only for 2000+ meters in the cragieburns and its a pre-season so it wont be updated regally.

Snow to about 200 m on the hills behind Palmy N overnight. I don't remember that being in the forecast, I'm sure they said more like 600 or 700 m. Presumably the heavy falls dropped the freezing level a bit.
