Next cold pool now coming in with the coldie CB's with the odd bit of Lightning thrown in....

Temps down to -32*C over the north island in the next 12 hours or so.
Thunderstorm Risk mainly over the west coast of the north Island with hail, but heavy showersand possible hail more inland.
Metservice wrote:A front over the Tasman Sea is expected to move onto the west of central and northern New Zealand Island this evening and tonight, and conditions are expected to gradually become more unstable from this afternoon about western areas from Northland down to Buller.

In western areas of Auckland, Waikato, Waitomo, Taranaki, western Nelson and Buller, there is a moderate risk of isolated thunderstorms this evening and tonight. These thunderstorms if they occur have the potential to bring localised heavy rain of 10 to 20mm/hr, small hail and strong winds gusting 90 km/h.

Additionally in the North Island, there is a lower of risk of thunderstorms extending a little further east from Northland down to Manawatu, as indicated on the chart.

No other areas of significant convection or thunderstorms are expected.

Snow could fall to low levels in Southland, 200m possible. 400m in Canterbury for a time, and Mt Hut should get a 10-20cm top up!

Thunder again here. Wish I had been writing on here every day I actually heard it because there have been days that I haven't written it on here. Of the past 21 days of rain in a row, I think about 12 or 13 have had thunder
