The last of the cold mornings here in this run of colder than normal weather, we have managed to escape the frosts here.
For Auckland some breezy damp weather coming up, it will turn warmer than average.

Interesting to see Metservice forecasting Christchurch to be 8 degrees charmer then Timaru and 6 degrees warmer then Ashburton tomorrow morning with 4 degrees - there must be some sort of NE breeze predicted to affect only Christchurch?

only 8.7 C here and a East wind at 6am
but Ricky has a more NE wind and 14C !
(i.e our air mass is originating from the colder land mass of the Waikato but Ricky is from the warmer hauraki gulf waters)

Wonder when Ruapehu will get its first decent snow of the year, seems to much later than SI resorts. Late June, early July im guessing.

The warming of the crater lake on Mt Ruapehu, may add to the lack of snow on it, as the heat could melt it.

In 1995 when Mt. Ruapehu erupted,. a lot of the snow melted because the mountain was warm :-s

not because the actual mountain was warm
but because of the black ash on top of the snow, melted it

Didn't Whakapapa and Turoa have one of their deepest snow bases on record just prior to the September 1995 eruption?

Auckland on 17C at 7am. I like these troughs for the mild weather, I think I prefer them to the cold highs!

Nothing in the modelling so far that suggests Ruapehu will get snow in June. Fingers crossed for July.

With La Nina, not sure how the ski season will play out.

I can see a fair bit of the snow that fall down this way two weeks ago disappearing over the next week, there should be a bit of top up Sunday though

So much for the warmer air down this way. Sitting on 8.9°C with lots of cloud and a little drizzle. Utterly miserable considering the forecast high was 16°C. Give me a cold clear conditions over this any day.

Ah, so the warm air did make it's way south, just not along the coast south of Timaru by the looks of it.
Oh well.
