General June Weather
Looks like a pleasant change from recent weather patterns coming up, with quite an intense high parking itself over the country this long weekend.

Re: General June Weather
I think the Metservice forecast for Christchurch minimums from Friday to Sunday might be a tad on the high side, looking more like -2C judging by the cold airmass that will be left, lack of cloud and light winds...

Re: General June Weather
I'm hoping that they're ok as -2°C at the start of the marathon on Sunday morning will be a little nippy. In saying that it was that last year and even colder the year before. Something more in the positives would be friendlier!Bradley wrote:I think the Metservice forecast for Christchurch minimums from Friday to Sunday might be a tad on the high side, looking more like -2C judging by the cold airmass that will be left, lack of cloud and light winds...

Re: General June Weather
Pretty sure I just observed a funnel cloud under a tcu on the North Shore a few minutes ago. Crappy iphone photo doesn't really show it

Re: General June Weather
Perhaps heating today could set off some local showers, I see the Auckland dewpoint is 10C with very cold upper air conditions. Greylynn showing 14C, dp11C, partly sunny weather.

A nice waterspout there. I see some lightning has been occurring over the warm Hauraki Gulf this afternoon.

Re: General June Weather
-28C at 500mb today, very cold airmass by Auckland winter standards. There must have been a surface boundary to generate some vorticity for that spout.

Re: General June Weather
An 80% chance of a warmer than normal Winter for the north and east of the North Island. Pattern will be the thing to watch this Winter, hopefully disturbed . Anticyclonic pattern over NZ tends to cool things down this time of year.David wrote:Pretty professional looking video by NIWA for their seasonal climate outlook... https://vimeo.com/169012573

Thank you for that, Nev, as I thought the postings were getting a bit tediousNev wrote:Mod Note: Have moved the 'Global Warning' thread to 'Off-Topic'.

Re: General June Weather
Driving down to Geraldine, yesterday, noticed the katabatic wind flow off the Alps directing smoke from burn-offs, up in the air then straight out to the coast.
