Re: General June Weather
Just 33 mm's of rain for June here, a quarter of our usual June rainfall, that comes on the heels of a may where we had 2.5x our normal rain

Re: General June Weather
I haven't looked back further than these forecasts issued late morning on Wednesday, but both of them have the clearance in the evening. Do you know where and when you got the forecast of clearing in the morning?jamie wrote:The flooding at Bombay was the worst I have ever seen there.
Check out the southerly in the Waikato. This wasn't forecasted. I was expecting a few showers this morn then clearing. We now have a slow moving band of heavy rain on the southerly front. Looks like I'll get more steady to heavy rain for a couple hours.
Waikato: "Scattered showers, some heavy, clearing in the evening. Southerlies developing in the morning."
Which would have been found here: http://www.metservice.com/rural/waikato
Hamilton/Tokoroa: "Some showers, few heavy, clears evening. Gusty southerly."
Which would have been found here: http://www.metservice.com/towns-cities/hamilton or http://www.metservice.com/towns-cities/tokoroa

General June Weather
I recall it this morning on the app saying
Showers possibly heavy clearing PM.
To me I interpreted that as clearing afternoon. Not evening. And showers would be mostly in the morning. Especially when checking the radar this morning and we were slightly south of a decent shower.
What we had today was fog with light winds changing to southerly with rain late afternoon. Rain clearing during night.

Thanks for that. I think I found it:jamie wrote:I recall it this morning on the app saying

"A few showers, chance heavy, clear late afternoon. S'ly."
Late afternoon = 3PM -> 6PM.
Given that it's 6PM and still raining in Hamilton, doesn't look like that one has worked out.

Re: General June Weather
that shower activity over the Waikato that is still going is not something you would expect normally with a SE change?
I suspect there is a bit of convergence...with a stronger southerly running up the coast further to the west, coming from Cook straight and over Taranaki..and lighter winds over the land

I would have to think that is the first June ever in Christchurch (Airport) where we didn't get a maximum temperature under 10C, incredible!

Re: General June Weather
No cold outbreaks for June, frost free here.
I see Ruapehu picked up some decent snow at higher levels this week. More snow there later next week for the ski fields but it probably start as rain at lower levels.

I think it was mostly rain at the lower ski field levels this week.
School holidays next weekend so they will be hoping the low system in the models for later next week can deliver.

Re: General June Weather
June 2016 was another near-record warm month, with very few days cooler than normal.
Some good late rainfalls in the upper North Island, the NW of the South Island and coastal Otago,
otherwise very dry in eastern and southern parts.
Overall, a very sunny first-half of the month made up for a rather cloudy second-half.
Some very preliminary June 2016 figures for the main centres:

Re: General June Weather
Its been quite the roller coaster ride this year at Ruapehu. Several times there has been a decent base form right down to carpark level but it keeps losing the battle against the rain. Pitty there was bugger all moisture with the southerly that came screaming through last night..spwill wrote:No cold outbreaks for June, frost free here.

For Wellington the sun contrast produced near-record values at both ends of the scale. Rainfall wasn't quite enough to wipe out the YTD deficit.Nev wrote:A month of two halves…

Exceptionally warm in Wgtn though, with Kelburn recording its highest ever June average T-min and 2nd-equal highest average T-mean.
While further south, Dunedin, Musselburgh recorded both its highest ever June average T-mean and average T-max, and Chch Aero recorded its 2nd highest June average T-mean.

Nationally I think we might fall a little short 2014's June record.
Here's some figures for Wellington though…

Re: General June Weather
Comparing my station's data for June 2015 and June 2016 I recorded a 3.3°C higher average temperature this year. Yet to see a flurry at 200m
There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.
