Re: General July Weather
Gust-front went through here at about 8:20pm. Less than 2mm of rain though.
I see Whangaparaoa jumped up to at least 93 km/h and Tiritiri at least 91 km/h.

Re: General July Weather
Just dropped my daughter off at GreenBay HighSchool and saw a spectacular pulsing CG strike in the direction of Portage Rd. Could have hit the 220 kV pylon towers Earthing conductors. time was 0900 hrs. ( 5 seconds time delay )
Prior to that a nice flash and bang strike near Pleasant Rd (0857h) . Heavy rain. Now all is settled again with the odd rumble.

Who put the LED's on the lightning arrestor ?

A nice little shower has just popped up over Amberley with soft hail. Doesnt seem to be any other shower activity around Canterbury, so its obviously targeting me!

Easily the warmest July my station has recorded with a mean temp of 11.5C (1-min sampling) . Avg min 8.1 and avg max 15.5.
Also the first month in 5 months to reach average rainfall, with 132mm total.

Coldest average July minimum at Christchurch Airport since 2011 with 0.2C for the month - kind of a surprise really after all the talk of record breaking warmth!

I don't recall anyone saying that July in NZ would be record breaker in terms of warmth?Bradley wrote:Coldest average July minimum at Christchurch Airport since 2011 with 0.2C for the month - kind of a surprise really after all the talk of record breaking warmth!
Nor how you get a T-mean of 0.2C for Chch Aero when its T-max was nearly 2C above normal?

Re: General July Weather
July 2016 was another fairly warm month overall. Eastern areas of both islands were still very dry, but otherwise quite wet for the rest of the South Island, and later for central areas of the North Island. However, despite the rain, it was also generally fairly sunny for most parts.
Some very preliminary July 2016 figures for the main centres:
