Desert Rd this morning. Reports coming on of 40cm new snow overnight at Ruapehu with Blizzard conditions still..

Stuff's "live" news bit has a report from a reader, along with an impressive picture, of a 70cm fall overnight on Napier-Taupo Rd at Te Haroto.

few cm settled at 300m,
35cm at 700m here
overnight we had 32ml total

I see its still westerly wind in Auckland city central,but SE wind here...even the Airport is SE

you can see the trough line over auckland via the wind direction info
i.e its between the Airport and Onehunga
:)

ps, the surface SE wind must be undercutting the westerly above,..as the rain radar is showing the rain is coming in from the west still here

M/S forecasting alot more snow yet or Hawkes Bay hills to Taupo (you can see that on the rain radar)
and are calling it a major snow event 8-o

So if 70cm has already fallen,do they mean 50 to 80cm of snow on top of that again, or is that total :-k

Gees so thats up to 150cm deep 8-o but only a metre drifts ...hmmm :-k if that does happen thats going to mean a major livestock recovery operation
