Interestingly some elevated convection on this incoming trough but no lightning detected on it. Weak upper level instability/divergence associated with the jet stream. Looks like Auckland gets the rain from later in the day.

Will October deliver us some decent storm setups for the NI? It seems we don't get the spring thunder setups like we used to and we get more Autumn thunder setups. I recall some very good spring setups through the 2000's

I think May has always been a good month as you get the overlap between polar jet/moisture. May this year was exceptional.

As for the rest of this year I am pinning my hopes on November/December.

Bugger the NI. We want something down here.
Looks like the end of September will be 'claggy' with stale, other results of other moving systems moving through here. :-S

28mm here overnight.

Looking like a low thunder risk over western Waikato Thursday afternoon if there is good heating and convergence can eventuate.

I see MetVUW's forecast charts are currently picking a 960 hPa low in the Tasman late next week. Signs of a change in the prevailing benign weather pattern perhaps? Too early to tell but maybe something's finally stirring now that we've reached the equinox.

Looks very turbulent weather on the Orewa Surfcam at the moment - white waves surging in, rain, a kite-surfer.

It seems to be quite foggy here at present - can see mist hanging in the air between me and the other side of the street.

Now looking like upper Northland for thunderstorms on Saturday, the risk may come a little further south on Sunday.

Hoping we can get a little sunshine today! Been a overcast week.

Really very dull weather going on here recently. Cloudy and cool for the last week, with no change for the next 10 days or so either by the looks of it. Most days haven't been too cold cause the NE'r has usually been pretty light, but probably only had a few hours of sun in the last week. No rain to speak of either, so it's just very dull and not very spring-like in the sense that is this keeps up for the next week it'll have been 2 weeks of exactly the same weather every single day.
