Looking at the forecast Tony put out today for October and November it seems the dreaded NE wind might play a big part in its makeup, lets hope that means some decent rainfall as well...

Hope so.
I hope the NE will work coming up against weak fronts which should enhance some possible thunderstorm activity?

Yes, loud on the roof through early morning and lots of big puddles/minor surface flooding around this morning.

I was more referring to how the NW generally kills of any thunderstorm development :> Apart from that a gentle NW is great any time of year!

Very hot weather in eastern Australia usually leads to elevated storms next day in south Tasman Sea/Southern Alps.

Some awesome turbulent linear feature passed through Hamilton late this afternoon, unfortunately was in the car the entire time driving and couldn't take a picture.

Heavy Rain with some possible Thunder moving through for upper North Island tomorrow, mid-late afternoon for Auckland and North Waikato.
Upper level forecast analysis shows the parcel is tetering on the edge of being unstable/stable when traversing through the lower to mid sector of the atmosphere though, however parcel goes through a significant portion saturated.

Difficult one this...... I see Metservice has revised the risk down to Low from Moderate in this morning's forecast.

Your forecast looks to have verified Tim with cbs developing this morning on that front. Very little lightning which indicates instability is fairly weak. But the forcing for ascent is strong.

An incredibly settled period coming up for Canterbury over the next 7 days, after today it looks very consistent with cool temps, light winds but very dry as well which is not so good...

It's been fairly settled here all year as far as I'm concerned, except for one or two interruptions, compared to the rest of the country.

Yet another lousy day here - although total rainfall has not been high, heading for possibly the dullest September on record (city records go back to 1906).

A most elegant-looking spiral system showing on rain-radar at the moment, west of Auckland-Waikato.

Yes, a good example of a vertically stacked low. The upper level circulation is directly above the surface circulation.

Looking like La Nina type conditions next 10 days with onshore flow in the east of the country rather than the more typical W.

Auckland sees a fine day tomorrow then more rain Tuesday.

Yes, lots of cloudy overcast weather for Canterbury but with the slight chance of sunshine for this week.
Some weak but interesting Cu forms with a NE convergence change this afternoon.
